Following the events of the previous episode, “Lighthouse”, Sayid confronts Dogen (Hiroyuki Sanada), who instructs him to kill the Man in Black (Terry O’Quinn), in order to prove that Sayid is still a good person. Sayid leaves the temple and encounters the Man in Black, stabbing him in the chest, however, nothing happens. The Man in Black explains that if Sayid cooperates then he can have anything he wants, including Nadia, who is dead in this timeline. Sayid is sent back to the temple with a message for the Others. Meanwhile, the Man in Black has also sent Claire Littleton (Emilie de Ravin) into the temple to deliver her own message to Dogen, who refuses to leave the temple and imprisons Claire.
